No Wimpy Chicks – Scaredy Cat!

I love watching America’s Funniest Videos! It always cracks me up when I see the scaredy cat clips. You know the ones where a cat sees itself in the mirror and springs three feet in the air or starts swatting at its own reflection as if it’s fighting an imaginary enemy. And the ones where something silly startles the cat and it leaps in gravity-defying form through the air.

Sometimes I’m just like that.

In fact, I’ve blogged about it before, but I really am probably the biggest sissy on the planet. Yet God chooses to use those places of fear to bring me to that place of faith.

I’m afraid of flying, yet God has called me to missions and to speak to women – so I’ve had plenty of “turning fear into faith” opportunities. And every time I board that plane, I’ve placed my fear at my Savior’s feet and joyfully declared, “I trust You!

You see, I know the God of where I am is also the God of where He is sending me. He does not cease to be God because I’m 35,000 feet in the air. And so I trust Him.

Fear holds us captive. It paralyzes us and renders us ineffective. It’s an enemy to becoming who we were created to be. And it’s exactly what the enemy of our souls often uses to prevent us from fulfilling our God-given destinies and impacting this world for Christ.

Look at the equation below and see what fear equals in your life:

Fear = Doubt
Fear = Distrust
Fear = Lack of Faith
Fear = Missed Opportunities
Fear = Failure

But if we’re going to be strong and courageous daughters of the Most High God, then we need to take ground that we’ve allowed to be lost to our fears.

The only kind of fear that is of God is the reverential fear we are to have of God.

So, today, I want to give you some strength building verses to flex your mental and spiritual muscles. Memorize them. Meditate on them. As a key component to the Armor of God, the Word is your offensive weapon! Every time fear wells up in your heart, pull the Sword of the Word out and slay it!

Don’t let one more opportunity to trust God slip through your fearful fingers! Trust God to be who is He is and to do what He says He will do!

The Word of God is chock full of “Do Not Fear”, “Do Not Be Afraid” verses. Here are just a few verses to sharpen your sword with:

Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Exodus 14:13-14, “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Isaiah 44:2-3,8 “Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘ Fear not, O Jacob My servant; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring;”

2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Psalm 118:6, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Genesis 26:24 “And the LORD appeared to him the same night and said, ‘I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.’”

As you look back on these verses, notice how several of them say…”Do not fear…FOR…” In other words, do not fear – because…because God is calling us to no longer be wimpy chicks who fear our own shadows because He is our GOD – He is with us and He’s got our backs! May we no longer allow our hearts to spring up in fear like a scaredy cat who takes flight every time we’re faced with something new, different or that challenges our faith.

Wimpy chicks fear – strong chicks have faith
Wimpy chicks hide – strong chicks are bold
Wimpy chicks cower – strong chicks stand

So what are you afraid of? Are you a scaredy cat? Have you allowed your fear to paralyze you and render you ineffective in any area? If so, would you be willing to lay that fear on the altar of faith today? Go for it girlfriend! You’ve only got one chance to do this thing called life well. So trust God and let’s do this thing well!

We are NOT wimpy chicks…we are daughters of the Most High God…so let’s live like it! Boldy, courageously, fearlessly! Let the only thing we fear be God! AMEN & AMEN!

  1. I dream of being that confident, courageous woman who instinctively trusts God with every situation that comes up.

    Most days, there's usually a whole lot of hand-wringing and whining before I get to that point of trust. But trust and faith are my goals. It really is a moment by moment battle some days.

    Anyway, I really loved your post today. It definitely spoke to me.
