Just a shout out to encourage you the weekend before Thanksgiving!
Take a few minutes and reflect on that first Thanksgiving Day. Remember what they were thankful for and who they gave thanks to. Reflect on the plethora of things you should be thankful for and then just…
THANK GOD for all HE has done!
Now here’s 3 things you can do to be sure you focus on Thanksgiving before you let your mind shift gears to Christmas:

1. Sit down with your children and write “Thank You” cards to every family member and every friend who will be at dinner. Have your children write their own cards. Exchange them before you eat dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

2. Read the Thanksgiving story on Thanksgiving Day and teach your children why we really celebrate this festive and filling holiday.

3. Use this week to make a “Thank You” list to Jesus. Have your children make their own list. Think about the big and small things you have been blessed with and write it down. During Thanksgiving dinner, pass your list to the person next to you and let them read through you “Thank You” list. Have them put a check next to the things they are thankful for too. Before you all go to sleep, spend some time in prayer going over each list, naming each thing you’re thankful for out loud.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us there is a time for everything. Don’t skip over the time we’ve been given to understand and exercise a thankful heart. Enjoy your Thanksgiving before you let yourself get caught up in the Christmas season. And then enjoy the fullness of that special season as well!
Do you struggle with enjoying one season before you get wrapped up in the next? What are some Thanksgiving traditions you celebrate?

  1. Great post Stephanie! You are so right, retail stores and media seem to push Thanksgiving less and less every year. Thank you Stephanie for giving us ways to truly celebrate being thankful. I want to thank you – you are an inspiration to me,so glad that God allowed our paths to cross. Happy Thanksgiving my friend!

  2. I love this. What great ideas you have. I will be getting thank you cards this week. Stephanie, I thank God for you. You are such a beautiful and Godly woman and I am blessed to know you.

  3. Thanks for sharing yourself with us. What a blessing you are my friend.

  4. Great suggestions, Stephanie! Each year, it seems Thanksgiving gets less and less attention. Besides eating together as an extended family, I don't think we have any traditions. Hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving, sweet Stephanie!

  5. Janet ~ You, sweet friend, are an inspiration to me! I hope you have a WONDER-ful Thanksgiving with family and friends! 🙂

  6. Veronica ~ Hi girlfriend! I'm definitely the blessed one! Love seeing the way you love Jesus out loud! What a beautiful woman of God, both inside and out! 🙂

  7. Cindy ~ It's funny, but I was talking on the phone to Tanyia and saw this pop up! Can't wait to finally meet you in 'real' life and be with you, Tanyia and the sweet women of 1st Baptist Glen St. Mary! It'll be here before you know it! 🙂

  8. Lynn ~ You're so right! Thanksgiving seems to be fading behind the commercialism of Christmas. I hope your Thanksgiving is terrific! (And SO thankful the Lord has connected our paths!)

    Love you, sweet Lynn!

  9. Nah! Thanksgiving is my favorite season anymore. I haven't really liked Christmas for a while. Won't go into those reasons now. Thanksgiving is the greatest because you can celebrate with anyone and everyone. There is no expectation except for food.

I am a bit sad when it is over and *everyone* is always talking about Christmas and have you started/finished shopping. I love giving gifts, but I don't think I'll ever give another Christmas gift. No, I am not a Scrooge. Just someone who wants to get totally away from *stuff* and make God the center of my life.

  10. Jean ~ You are so right about how Christmas has gone in such a crazy commercial direction! Like you, I really enjoy Thanksgiving!

I confess my favorite shopping day is Black Friday, but not because I like to shop – but because my bbf and I get that one overnight opportunity to enjoy hanging out. In fact, we've been known to go from 10pm Thanksgiving Day evening and staying out until Friday evening about 6pm without buying a single item.

Just love rare girlfriend time! 🙂

Looking forward to time with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day!

    Hope your's is fantabulous!
