What’s That to You?

Have you ever struggled with why others may not be as excited about the same ministries that you are? Have you ever wondered why some seem to be so complacent about something you’re so passionate about?

Today’s word from the Word can help. If you are receiving this post through a feed and you can’t view the video, please click the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6T4qOHYtU0

“Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” John 21:20-22

While the Lord gives a universal call to all who follow Him to live holy lives, to be honest, kind, noble and good…to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to maintain a good testimony during our short stay on this earth, He also has given each of us a very unique path to take in our own personal journey.

Sweet friends, the Lord has specific works for you to do while you’re on this planet. Don’t waste time wondering why others aren’t doing the same thing. I realize that many don’t seem to be fervent about what you’re doing…in fact, many aren’t fervent about what they are supposed to be doing, but remember what Jesus said to Peter, “What’s that to you? You follow Me!”

Before you go, would you take a few minutes to ponder these questions about your own life and see if perhaps you need to more passionately pursue that which Christ has called you to?

What is it that God has called you to do?

How much time do you spend working at what Christ has called you to?

What is preventing you from doing what He has called you to do?

What can you do today to begin your passionate pursuit of that which Christ has called you to?

  1. Amen! This is RIGHT on. Thank you so much for sharing, I will be sharing this with my friends and family 🙂 Bless you!

  2. Thanks for your encouraging words and I sincerely appreciate the share! Hope you have a blessed day! (Oh…by the way, I homeschooled for 11 years and LOVED it! AND I used to say, “So you call yourself a homeschooler”…and when we went to the mission field, we would say, “And you call yourself a missionary!? 🙂

  3. Steph, as usual, you hit a home run with this. I had to turn to that passage in John 21 and check it out for myself. Oddly those words right there in my favorite Gospel never really stood out at me until now. Such powerful insight from what you shared and seeing it right there at the end of John's Gospel. Freedom in Christ even applies to our specific callings (no more unnecessary guilt). 😉 I love that, and I love you. 🙂

  4. Thank you for reminding me that what I am doing right now is a specific calling from the Lord! I HAVE wasted a lot of time wondering why others close to me are not as fervent in this cause! I will post your quote “What's that to you? You follow Me!”
    Thanks

  5. Great food for thought! I used to struggle with the fact that others may not be as enthused about a ministry or ministry project as I was. I mean, if they loved me and wanted to support me, wouldn't they get involved. Well, they have their own lives and the agendas God has put on their hearts. It has nothing to do with me. A great lesson all the way around. 🙂

  6. Shelly ~ You are always SO encouraging! Isn't it funny how there are so many passages in God's Word that seem to pop off the page at exactly the right time. I love how alive God's Word is! 🙂

  7. Kris ~ Thanks so much for sharing your sweet comment! God has His body functioning in different ways and in different places and the diversity of each member is such a beautiful thing! I popped over to your page and LOVE what you do! So far from anything I'm capable of! LOVE IT!

  8. Donna ~ It's a constant battle for me to bring myself back to this verse. I think it's that way for those who are in ministry and every time we walk through that feeling of being alone in ministry we get another chance to dig our heels in and say, “I will be faithful to the Lord and to do what He has called me to regardless of what others do!”

Love your heart and your ministry, my friend!

  9. I have been in spiritual limbo for so long, I've gotten used to not doing anything with what God gave me! Two reasons- One, I felt like the idea I had for ministry wasn't a good one because no one would jump on board, and Two- I wasn't really sure what God wants me to do!
God has blessed me with so many talents- and no, I'm not bragging- I would honestly prefer one really great talent instead of fifty good talents! But I have been told by a LOT of people- even strangers- that they wish they had all the talents I do. My questions is, how can a juggler focus on one ball when he's juggling twelve of them?
The only answer I've received from God was about my writing- though I do get inklings of using my other gifts for ministry- I just don't know where to start! I get overwhelmed easily and wind up freezing instead of just DOING something.
I'm still trying to figure things out, but your post certainly helped! Thanks a bunch!

  10. Beth ~ I completely get the whole, “I wasn't really sure what God wants me to do” thing! There are so many good things to get involved with, so many wonderful things to do in His name…but God doesn't call us to everything. He calls us to SOME things. The key is to look at where you've been, where you are now and what God wants to use to accomplish what He wants to do through you.

And the juggler… well, he never only has one ball to focus on… otherwise, he's not really juggling, he's just tossing a ball. 🙂

But with that said, I have to share a lesson that was very hard for this easily distracted girl to learn… Stay focused and finish the one or two things you know He has called you to or He may not be doling out more. As Elizabeth Elliot once said… “Just do the next thing.” and may I add, “DO IT WELL!”

I love you heart, your sense of humor and how you love others! Can't wait to see that cookbook completed and the other things God has for you! 🙂

  11. Thank you for sharing and it is so like God to have His message as a confirming word. Recently I was dwelling on a similar message and so glad God directed my eye to your Tweet. God Bless You and continue to do His authorized will for your life. Amen Indeed and Shalom. Miriam Stevens from The Thankful Revolution (And a message I just wrote speaking on same type word to do what you are supposed to do now…thank you again for sharing! http://www.thankfulrevolution.com/?p=2326)
