What Happened to Holiness?

Do you ever wonder what is happening to holiness? Are you grieved by the blatant sin that is so easily excused and carefully disguised using words to make it seem less than what it really is?


In a culture of political correctness and in a society where everything goes, the concept of holiness is considered obsolete.


But God does not change with the opinions of man. His holiness is not reduced by man’s attempts to justify himself.


He is God. He remains holy throughout all eternity. His standards do not diminish because ours do – nor does He require less of us because we are naturally depraved.


Proclaiming His love without proclaiming His holiness is skewing the view of who He really is. In a world where we all need to know that God is love, let us not forget He is holy. 

May we not make sin less than what it is with palatable words to pacify the masses. As we look at our world buckling under the weight of sin and compromising its character for momentary thrills that will one day be judged, will we choose to be holy anyway?

Can we really expect God to change His view of sin because we would prefer to live by the dictates of our flesh as we sing praises and say amen? 


He calls us to holiness because He is holy. Yet, in His great mercy, He makes us holy through the death of His Son.


The cross is the evidence of God’s verdict on sin. A holy and just God requiring the guilty be condemned – a loving and merciful Savior willing to be condemned in our place.


Today, I am reminded that God is holy and that He calls us to holiness. His love does not excuse sin… it pays for it. The question is, once we have accepted what He did on the cross to pay for our sins, why would we ever want to live any less than what He calls us to?
