Controversial Christianity

Have you ever heard something in church that you later found out was a far cry from biblical truth? Have you ever strongly believed something but later discovered it wasn’t scripturally accurate?

Or what about this… Have you ever looked at the church and wondered if we are living out who we say we are? I mean, when you read the Scriptures and you find certain hard sayings of Jesus and then you place our lives under the microscope of His Word, do you see a disparity between who we are and who we are called to be?

Monday I’m going to start a new series calledΒ Controversial Christianity.

This series may not be an easy one, but sometimes it’s necessary to drop back and punt. We spend so much time being progressive in methodology while trying to remain biblically fundamental that we skip right over what it means to walk with God.

Christianity by it’s very nature in controversial – but in our modern day, feel-good church environment we seem to be more interested in making it palatable. Jesus calls us to do some radical things. Controversial for sure.

Think about it… when he called His disciples He simply said, “Follow me.” They left their jobs, their family businesses and even their families and began their journey with Christ.

How many times have we dug up biblical truth we didn’t previously know existed.

This series is designed to pull the curtain back on strongly held beliefs that have been misunderstood for far too long.

I want to preface this series of posts with a warning. THIS WILL BE CONTROVERSIAL. IT WILL CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO.

Different opinions are welcome, but courtesy in presenting those opinions is required in order to be shared.

Take a look at the topics we’ll be covering:

  • Good People Go to Heaven
  • God’s Will is Revealed by Open Doors and Easy Access
  • If You Tithe, You Won’t Experience Need
  • Racism Doesn’t Exist in the Church
  • Doctrine Doesn’t Matter… or Does It?
  • We’re Going to Spend Eternity Together, So Let’s Enjoy Serving God Together
  • Traditional or Contemporary… Which One Is Right?
  • Christians Aren’t Supposed to Judge
  • When Life Gets Tough, It’s Because You’ve Sinned
  • Christians, Intolerance and Political Correctness

I hope you’ll join me in this series about controversial Christianity and let’s look at what the Bible has to say about these things together.

What controversial topic do you want to see tackled in this series? Do you struggle with any of these particular topics listed?
