Isaiah for the Heart ~ The Revolving Door of Redemption

“I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord
And the praises of the Lord,
According to all that the Lord has bestowed on us,
And the great goodness toward the house of Israel,
Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies,
According to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses.
For He said, ‘Surely they are My people,
Children who will not lie.’
So He became their Savior.
In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the Angel of His Presence saved them;
In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;
And He bore them and carried them
All the days of old.” Isaiah 63:7-9 (NKJV)

I’m not sure why, but every time I enter a revolving door, I just want to keep going around and around until I make myself sick.

I know…that’s pretty goofy…but I told you girls I was really just a big goofball. 🙂

It may be that my 50 year old heart just doesn’t want to grow up, but I’m drawn to the child-like…the playful…the silly. Maybe it’s because I love to laugh or perhaps it’s my attempt to stay young, but whatever it is, all I know is that when I’m near a revolving door, I long to linger there.

That may be fun in a revolving door but in our spiritual walk with God, it’s not.

The children of Israel had a history that looked much like a revolving door.

One minute they were following hard after God and the next minute they were headed in a completely different direction. Yet, God in His mercy would continually redeem them from their circumstances.

Time and time again, we find the revolving door of redemption in the pages of Scripture.

I used to think it was just the children of Israel, but God’s people tend to be like that. Don’t they?

I tend to be like that.

One minute I’m following hard after God…serving Him…trusting Him…

and the next minute I’m aggravated with the lady in the car in front of me because she thinks she owns both lanes of the road.

One minute I’m sure of what He has called me to and I’m confident that I can do all things through Christ….

and the next minute I’m wondering where He is and why He hasn’t opened the ministry door I think He should.

Yet every time my heart grows weary, I stumble in the way or my faith grows weak, the Great I AM, in His mercy, speaks redemption to my soul and reminds me that I am His.

He tells me He has loved me with an ever lasting love; that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, that His plan for me is perfect and that His will for me is good; that I can trust Him to be who He said He is and to do what He says He will do. He whispers to my heart that He is with me…that the Angel of His Presence sustains me…that whatever I am going through (regardless of whether I have been faithful or not) He LOVES me and is carrying me every step of the way.

That’s the God we serve, sweet sisters! He has redeemed us unto Himself, once and for all when He saved us.

He continues to redeem us every step of the way because He loves us with a relentless love.

It’s a magnificent, miraculous and mystifying revolving door of redemption.

Now it’s your turn. Have you ever felt like you blew it with God? Like you failed Him? Have you ever sensed the beauty of His redemption sweep in and bring peace to your wayward heart? Have you ever experienced the revolving door of redemption?
