Eat Up! Day 6 – Do you have an unquenchable passion for the Word of God?

If you downloaded the devotionals before December 26th, you may have found there was a typo. Originally, I forgot the 1 and it read Jeremiah 15:6 instead of Jeremiah 15:16.

Huge difference.

Jeremiah 15:6 is about God being weary with Israel’s constant rejection of Him to the point where He says He will stretch out His hand to destroy them.

But our passage is about eating God’s Word and having an unquenchable appetite for it because we know we are His… that we are called by His name.

What a difference a number makes.

I also had the January 3rd’s verse listed as Philippians 1 3:7-14. Another typo.

I seriously hate to make mistakes like that and I’m so sorry for the mess up. But I’m reminded of the very important truth that the only infallible book is the Bible because the only infallible author is God.

So, let’s analyze today’s verse word-by-word.

Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV) Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

Jeremiah 15:16 (Amp. Classic) Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

It’s a simple but powerful verse that teaches us how significant God’s Word should be in our lives.

So, here we go…

Your words were found – this means there was a point where Jeremiah discovered God’s Word to him – not that they were ever lost, but for Jeremiah, he discovered God’s specific words to him perhaps even for the first time. When we read Scripture and God reveals His Word to us in a specific way and He gives us a “Rhema” from His Word it’s like a hug from Heaven!

And I ate them – the word used for ate means to feed upon or to devour. God’s Word should be something we feed upon and devour. Let’s make 2019 the year we devour God’s Word.

And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart – God’s Word should be what delights our heart. For Jeremiah, it was God’s Word that was THE joy and rejoicing of his heart. Is God’s Word THE rejoicing of your heart? Just remember, the more your spend time reading and studying God’s Word, the more you know God and the more you experience an insatiable appetite to read and study God’s Word more. Doing precedes feeling sometimes. So, just do it and your appetite will increase for it.

For I am called by your name – Jeremiah treasured his relationship with God. Being called by His name is knowing who you belong to and seeing that union as a gift that God has given us. Do you know you are His? Are you sure you belong to God as one of His born again children? If not, the Bible says today is the day of salvation. You can give your life to Him now and He will make you His. Oh Lord God of Hosts – In the original language, Lord God of Hosts is Yĕhovah (the existing One) ‘elohiym (the mighty God-plural word that gives us a glimpse at the Trinity) tsaba’ (the One who goes to war, the One who is the might God of armies) 

Analyzing God’s Word, word by word is a powerful way to experience MORE of what God’s Word is saying and MORE of who He is.

Today, as we seek MORE in 2019, I hope we will all EAT UP! That we will all have an insatiable appetite for the Word of God and to know Him MORE like Jeremiah did!
