Hi friends! I am officially off vacation and I think I need a vacation after my staycation! Ever felt like that? 🙂
Well, we’re back on task now and don’t think for a minute that my week long absence from this blog meant you were absent from my heart. Not at all. In fact, you were the object of some of my prayers this past week and I really pray this 31 Way deal is going to encourage you right where you are!
Today, we are looking at the #9 way to make our eternities intentional and I think we will definitely agree this lesson is for the whole kit and caboodle of us! It’s the need we have to quit sweating the small stuff.
We all know that life gets crazy, seems unfair, can be overwhelming and can often rock our worlds! That’s how it feels when the big stuff happens. But many of us handle the big stuff much better than we do the small stuff.
I think that’s because the big stuff sends us to our knees while the small stuff distracts us from that place of prayer.
But here’s my take on why the small stuff can be so dangerously distracting:
1) The small stuff is easily ignored, swept under the carpet or dealt with, so we don’t sense a need to take it to our Father.
2) The small stuff begins to snowball into an avalanche and those little things we should have taken to God become the big things that drive us to His feet.
3) The small stuff drives us crazy and we often find ourselves over reacting to what really doesn’t amount to a hill of beans.
Any of those scenarios hit you smack between the eyes? I think I just got pegged by every one of them!
But God’s Word tells us in Philippians 4:6…
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”
But check out how Philippians 4:7 follows by answering the deep rooted need of our anxious hearts:
“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Most of the time when we sweat the small stuff our anxious and harried hearts are desperately crying out for peace. But when we are captivated by the little things life throws our way, we miss the whole point of it all.
If we are going to be women who make our eternities intentional, we really have to quit making such a big deal out of such little stuff! Let those little things send you to the Savior’s feet before the big things fling you there. Everything we do…every way we act and react…everything that happens in our hearts and lives should be filtered through surrendered prayer.
If not, we will find ourselves distracted from what matters most and focusing on what doesn’t really matter at all…especially in the grander scheme of things!
Are you a worrier? Do you get easily overwhelmed by the little things in life or is it the big things that throw you for a loop?
