I’m not a germ-a-phobe, but I can’t tell you how many times I use hand santizer.

  • When I go grocery shopping, I use hand sanitizer before I push the cart.
  • When I go to the bank, I use hand sanitizer after I’m finished putting the drive through tube up.
  • When I visit people at the hospital, push the buttons on an elevator or open doors to go into a building, I use hand sanitizer.

I do it because there is so much sickness going around. People inadvertently pass along colds, the flu, stomach viruses, pink eye, pneumonia, skin infections, MRSA and more.

As we go through our day, we are exposed to things that can infect our vulnerable bodies. Things that can make us sick. Things that can even be deadly.

A little hand sanitizer can literally make the difference between sickness and health, life and death.

The same is true in our spiritual lives.

As we go through the day, we are exposed to all types of contaminants. Things that can be unhealthy for us and even debilitate us.

As Christians, we are affected by that which we are exposed to. Repentance and a daily dose of the Word is like a little sanitizer for the heart. It cleanses the soul and protects the heart.

You see, I’m convinced that too many of God’s girls are walking around infected by a daily dose of dirt instead when the heart sanitizer of the Word is just  a short read away. No other book has the power to cleanse us. No other book has the power to heal us, to protect us, to change us, to strengthen us, to encourage us or to give us wisdom for the next step.

In a world where the beautiful brokenness of repentance is rare and the discipline of a daily dose of the Word isn’t popular, our spiritual immune systems are weak and we’re not able to stand strong.

Perhaps our daily exposure to the impurities of life are keeping us from being the victorious women of God He created us to be. But Jesus says we ARE more than conquerors – we have all things that pertain to life and godliness – we can do all things through Christ – and we are complete in Him.

Today, I want to encourage you, sweet friend…dive into Scripture, be washed by the water of the Word, saturate your heart and mind, and strengthen your faith in the Truth.

“After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.” Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”  For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.” John 13:5-11 (NKJV)

How about you? When was the last time you ran to the Word to be cleansed? How has God’s Word served as a heart sanitizer for you?
