MY TIME:
Nehemiah 5:1-13 ~ We enter Nehemiah 5 with the cry from the people of God who were under heavy taxation, unfair political policies and even their own brothers were charging them interest and taking their children as slaves to pay off their debts.
The policies the government makes are important. They can make or brake a nation. They can make or brake a people. The policies and taxation in Nehemiah’s day were ruining the economy and the people were suffering. God’s people were suffering. Nehemiah was in a position to do something about it and he did.
When Nehemiah was appointed to be governor, he made policies that may not have been the most popular. People would lose money from uncollected debt, but he denied himself many privileges that a governor would have had so that he could give that money back to people and help them become financially free. And he called on the business leaders and those who had taken their own people captive to relieve them of their debt and set the people free.
Whatever position the Lord gives us, we are to use it to help others and glorify God. Not for our own gain. Not for position or power…but to help those in need.
Nehemiah 5:19 ~ “Remember me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.”
This echoes the heart of the Hebrews 6:10, “ For God is not unrighteous to forget or overlook your labor and the love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of the saints (His own consecrated people), as you still do.” (AMPLIFIED)
Nehemiah 6:1-3 ~ One of my ALL-TIME favorite responses to dealing with those who either oppose us or are time stealers who tend to suck us dry and never listen to what we say. It’s more like they just want to be a distraction from what God has called us to do.
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” (verse 3)
Sometimes, we have to choose what to do with our time. How to respond to those who oppose us, wear us out or steal our time. Sometimes, we just have to say, “I’m really busy serving Jesus and I don’t have time for riffraff.”
Have you ever had to make that choice? Me too.
Nehemiah 6:9 ~ “Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.”
Nehemiah was the master at instant prayers. In the midst of trouble, he cried out for help from God and when God had given him the discernment he needed to overcome his enemies, he moved on and finished the wall.
When we’re in the middle of our circumstances and we don’t have time to run to our prayer closet and get our 30 in…we have a prayer closet in our hearts where the God of the universe has made His abode and He tells us to pray…about anything and everything…to seek His face and know that He hears us because we are His through faith in Christ.
When your afraid, you can pray, “O God! Strengthen my hands!” ~ When you don’t know what to do, you can pray, “O God! Strengthen my hands!” ~ When the enemy is coming in like a flood, you can pray, “O God! Strengthen my hands!”
He did it for Nehemiah and He’ll do it for us!
YOUR TURN: WHAT VERSE OR VERSES MINISTERED TO YOU TODAY? HOW DO YOU HANDLE IT WHEN OPPOSITION COMES OR TIME STEALERS TEND TO WEAR YOU OUT?
