  1. I am just reaching out as a woman of faith to ask Stephanie why and how she thinks Gv Newsom has failed California. I’m not sure where she is in California but I’d love to meet her for coffee or lunch (my treat!) and perhaps we could pray together because I pray for California daily and would love to learn more from Steph about her concerns for California and how we could both be prayer warriors for our beloved state.

    • Hi Jane,

I appreciate you reaching out. I was born in California but I don’t live there. However, I know many people who do. I also have watched the policies and conditions in California for years.

I realize many people have varying opinions and I respect everyone’s right to think as they choose. My analysis of Gavin Newsom is based on a wide variety of his positions, policies and the effects of both.

Biblically, as a Christian, I find his policies very much contrary to Scripture.

His position on pretty much everything, from abortion to transgender influence and from parental rights protection to immigration and crime all run contrary to biblical principles.

      • He is pro-abortion. I cannot and would not ever vote for anyone who doesn’t value human life. Especially the life of the most vulnerable. If a person won’t protect a baby in the womb, they don’t have the capacity to protect their citizens.

      • He is pro-transgender and anti-women’s rights. Women fought for decades to secure their rights. Title 9 was enacted in 1972 and has protected women’s rights in sports. Now, women are subjected to men taking their scholarships and playing against them in sports. Not to mention being subjected to having to be in locker rooms and private spaces with men. Women have been, once again, set aside and bullied by men and a woman no longer is safe in a locker room or a bathroom.

He has signed multiple laws that place lbgtq+ and transgender rights above women’s rights, above parental rights and above children’s safety.

      * He is anti-illegal immigration. This is a sensitive topic and I am very much pro-immigration. However, I am very much anti-illegal immigration. As we all should be. No country with any wisdom would open it’s borders and allow anyone to cross them.

And as a missionary, I am very aware of the border laws that prohibit illegal immigration around the world. I’m also aware of how the cartels and coyotes use the open border policies of the last administration to traffic hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

Gavin Newsom has consistently enabled open borders and funneled illegal immigrants into California. He approved $50 million to protect illegal immigrants, has opposed the laws of the United States of America and tried to thwart our government’s attempt to remove illegal immigrants from this country. He has increased funding for living and medical expenses for illegal immigrants at taxpayer’s expense. He also allows illegal immigrants to buy homes, have driver’s licenses, obtain CDL licenses (over 17,000 in CA already) – putting everyone on the road in danger.

When it comes to Christians and having a biblical stance on immigration, a proper understanding of Scripture is important. The word for foreigners and strangers in the original language is gār.

It almost always denoted someone who had entered the land after being what we would term, “vetted” and given permission to stay and were told where to stay as well. They were also expected to follow the laws of the land or be deported. That’s actually what happened when Abraham and Sarah went to Egypt. He was vetted, given permission to stay. Told where to stay. When they found out that Sarah lied, they were deported. If they entered the land without permission, they were not welcome.

      They broke the law.

When we were missionaries living in another country, we entered and stay in that country according to their laws. We had to leave every 3 months for 72 hours. If we didn’t, we risked deportation, jail and fines. We respected their laws.

Those who come to the United States should respect ours. And those who are citizens here shouldn’t be urging others to break our laws.

His social and economic policies have hurt California in a multitude of ways.

      • California has the highest gas prices in the country.

      • California has the 4th highest tax burden for it’s citizens in the country.

      • California ranks 37th in the country for education.

      • California has the 3rd highest unemployment rate in the country.

      • Newsom’s horrific failure before, during and after the Pacific Palisades fires demonstrate his culpability as well as his negligence and inability to prepare or handle the management of state resources, emergency operations or rebuilding.

His “climate and environmental” policies have caused the depletion of water resources that were fuel for the fire and without the water the fire departments needed, the fire burned out of control.

There are currently only 11 permits to rebuild because of all the restrictive policies in place that prevent rebuilding. And to date, Newsom hasn’t improved water storage or delivery systems for residents yet.

      • Nearly 683,000 people left California in 2023 and approximately 239,000 more people move away from California than move to it each year.

      • Crime rates increased dramatically with his policies (Proposition 47 and Proposition 57) have making crime worse.

      • California may be ranked 4th in the world for its GDP but it has gone from a $100 billion surplus to a $30 billion deficit in one year due to excessive spending.

      • California has the highest cost of living in the nation.

      • The homeless crisis in California is the highest in the nation despite the fact that Newsom has spent over $20 billion on prevention programs.

      • Newsom has squandered billions of taxpayer funds on promises he makes about programs he never actually does. Like the homeless programs and high-speed railways.

      • Businesses are fleeing California due to the cost of living there along with the restrictive polices. Including Tesla, McKesson, Chevron, Oracle, CBRE, Charles Schwab, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Neutrogena, Relator.com , AECOM and FICO just to name a few.

      • AB-495 was just passed which puts parental rights and children’s safety at risk.

      • Not to mention he is indicated as engaging in pay-to-play politics by receiving millions from state contractors and developers and rewarding them with billions in state contracts and those same special interest groups donate to his wife’s 501c3 foundation from which she receives more than a million dollars in payroll compensation.

I could go on and on, but while I realize that we often don’t have Christians running for office that we can vote on, we still must vote for policies and positions that candidates stand on. Gavin Newsom clearly stands on policies that are contrary to biblical principles. He also has not been good for California and while those who can afford to live there and pay excruciating housing prices and absurd taxes and gas prices may be fine there… average income workers cannot. And neither can businesses.

So, as a Christian, there is no way I could or would vote for him. I ultimately think his handling of COVID demonstrated who he is. He will shut down everyone and everything and put people in jail while he dines on French cuisine in swank restaurants at taxpayer’s expense. Rules for thee – but not for me.

I realize others may think differently, but those are just a few of the reasons I would never vote for him and I’m glad I don’t live in California under his leadership.
