You’ve seen it on the news, heard your friends talking about it and even heard sermons preached about it. Will the world really end on December 21, 2012?
The answer is easy. No.
The Bible says that no man knows the day or or the hour (Matthew 24:36), so the fact that people think they know is proof that they don’t.
But the question is a valid one.
Time is drawing to a close. We can all feel it coming. We don’t know when, but we know it is inevitable.
But the Bible talks about being ready when it does happen.
There are the 10 virgins who were headed out to meet the Bridegroom. Five were wise enough to have enough oil, five were not. (Matthew 25:1-6)
Then there is the admonitions in the Word of God to stay awake, be ready, keep our eyes open and our hearts pure.
We don’t know when the world will end. But it will. We don’t live for this life, we live for the next.
Are you focusing on that which will never end or are you putting all your eggs in this earthly basket?
If you knew he was coming back tomorrow, what would you do differently? Would you beg your lost loved ones to give their lives to Christ? Would you spend hours repenting, worshipping, singing praise or making things right with that person you have wronged…or forgive the one you haven’t forgiven?
Would you make a big deal of the lady who pulled out in front of you or the cashier who is taking way too long?
Or would you just humbly bow your heart before your God, with your knees on the floor and your eyes on heaven? Looking. Watching. Waiting.
Because one day it is going to happen. You will get to see the Savior of the world…face to face.
