It was a dark day in Boston when someone, or more than one someone, hid behind their anonymity and used bombs to kill innocent people in the most cowardly way.
At times like this people begin to wonder why God would allow something like that to happen.
Maybe you’ve asked the same thing.
After living through a decade of abuse as a child, I’ve heard some interesting comments. Some have blamed God for what I have been through, declaring the Sovereignty of God means that He ordains all activity under the sun. And God is definitely, Sovereign. Make no mistake about it.
But the Bible tells us in James 1:13, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.”
When we look at the Word of God, we find that God is Sovereign, but He does not make people puppets. And when things like the Boston bombing and other heinous things happen, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t good, it only serves to remind us of how wicked man is apart from God and how desperately we need Him.
One day, God will make all things new and wickedness will exist no more.
“And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:5-8
One day, God will wipe away every tear and death will be no more.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4
One day, those who are wicked will pay the ultimate price for their evil deeds.
“But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21:27
It was a dark day in Boston last week. It was a dark day in Texas when the fertilizer plant exploded.
But one day darkness will be no more and we will walk in the Light.
We don’t understand why things like that happen. We never will this side of eternity. But the character of God is not changed because bad things happen. They only serve to prove how much we need Him, how desperately wicked man’s heart can be apart from Him and how temporal this life really is.
What are your thoughts about the bombings, the Texas explosion and other tragedies that happen in our world?
