MY TURN:

Nehemiah 7:2 ~ Nehemiah chose his brother, Hanani to be a leader in Jerusalem ~ “…for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.”

Etched in the eternal Word of God is the testimony of a man named Hanani. He was a faithful man who feared God more than many. It calls us to consider our own testimony. What would God write about us? What would we be known for? I long to be a woman who, like Hanani, is known for her faithfulness to God and a life lived that demonstrates a sincere fear of God. How about you?

Nehemiah 7:4-73 ~ After God put it on Nehemiah’s heart to register the people by genealogy, we find the list of God’s people who had gathered together to help build the wall.

I LOVE how God calls us to do things that don’t make sense and may seem extremely tedious, but our obedience to those things is just as important as our obedience to the grand and exciting.

Nehemiah 8:1 ~ “Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel.”

I LOVE that the people gathered together as ONE man. It’s what we are called to. Oneness…unity. To be ONE in Christ. And the beauty of their oneness was that it was based on their relationship with God. As ONE PEOPLE the called on the priest/scribe Ezra to read God’s Word out loud in their midst. They LONGED for the Word of God.

And I couldn’t help but wonder how beautiful it would be if the body of Christ would all LONG for God’s Word SO MUCH that they called the pastors and asked them to PLEASE READ GOD’S WORD OUT LOUD NON STOP!

Throughout Nehemiah 8, we see God’s people hungry to hear the Word of God. They longed to hear God’s Word read out loud and were anxious to listen to leaders who were there to explain the Word of God to them.

What a testimony of God’s people being hungry for God’s Word and the joy they had when they went home knowing what the Scriptures meant!

“And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.” Nehemiah 8:12

QUESTION: HOW HAS GOD USED NEHEMIAH 7 – 8 IN YOUR LIFE? DO YOU LONG FOR GOD’S WORD? ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT LISTENING AND LEARNING AS OTHERS TEACH GOD’S WORD?
