When I’m Afraid…

Are you afraid? Is fear something you’re dealing with today?

If we were honest, we’d all admit that fear is something we struggle with from time to time.

Fear is a real thing that happens to all of us…even those with hearts after God and mountain moving faith, like David.

Psalm 56 was a song written by David when the Philistines captured him in a land called Gath. He was afraid. But he trusted in God in the midst of his fear.

Fear is just as real for us as it was for David.

He didn’t disregard his fear.

He didn’t minimize his fear.

He didn’t even call his fear sin.

Instead, he took control of his thoughts as he shifted his focus to the goodness of God and tender loving care of the Most High God.

Fear is real. But it doesn’t come from God. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Fear can be debilitating.

That’s one of the reasons God addresses our fears and tells us to fear not throughout His Word.

Fear can cause us to act and react in irrational ways.

It can cause us to do things we’d never do – think things we’d never think.

It can even cause us to lose hope because we focus on how big our circumstances are instead of focusing on how big our God is.

Here are some verses to help us all gain perspective when fear comes knocking on our heart’s door…

Take some time today to read through the verses above and Psalm 56 below. Take heart and be of good courage my Christian brothers and sisters… the Lord is with you wherever you go.

Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up;
Fighting all day he oppresses me.
My enemies would hound me all day,
For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.

Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me?

All day they twist my words;
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather together,
They hide, they mark my steps,
When they lie in wait for my life.
Shall they escape by iniquity?
In anger cast down the peoples, O God!

You number my wanderings;
Put my tears into Your bottle;
Are they not in Your book?
When I cry out to You,
Then my enemies will turn back;
This I know, because God is for me.
10 In God (I will praise His word),
In the Lord (I will praise His word),
11 In God I have put my trust;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?

12 Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God;
I will render praises to You,
13 For You have delivered my soul from death.
Have You not kept my feet from falling,
That I may walk before God
In the light of the living?

Eternally His,

Steph
Phil 3:7-14
